Less work, more play

This weekend we put the house projects on hold and had fun instead!  We took the horses to a benefit trail ride Saturday morning about 45 minutes away.  We rode about 8 miles with a large group of riders (50+) and then ate lunch; all proceeds went to a local equine rescue group.  This was Mow's first big ride and as far as my one goal (to not fall off) it was a success!

Here are the horses tied to the trailer before we set out. Mow had a brief taste of freedom when he got loose unloading from the trailer, but some helpful fellow riders helped me catch him.

Matthew on Rabi, who was great as usual.

Me on Mow while he was still relatively calm.  I did not get a chance to take any photos during the actual ride because I needed "both hands on the wheel" at all times for the 2.5 hour ride.

After a brief rest at home, we cleaned up and headed into town for some Contra dancing.  My foot is not 100% yet, but this was a free dance so I didn't feel bad if I didn't dance every time!

Our two housecats are now indoor/outdoor cats and they have really been enjoying the outdoors.  Here is Louie scratching his back on the cement apron by the barn.

Today we did a little bit of work and Matthew did a lot of studying for his upcoming professional engineer test (while watching another fire!).

Our Anniversary

For our first anniversary on Monday, Matthew and I enjoyed some champagne (same as at the wedding) and the top of our wedding cake.  The cake was pretty good considering it had been in the freezer a year and moved multiple times!  We also played games and watched the video from the wedding, thanks Margaret!

We continued to celebrate our anniversary on Tuesday by dining at Elizabeth's on 37th, a very delicious (but expensive) local restaurant.

It was just as good as we remembered!

More Work

Matthew and I have been continuing our work around the house, including finishing touches on the sheds and unpacking more boxes.  We put together my tack closet this weekend so that I could finally put all of my horse tack back together.  We are also planning out what areas of the property we want to log in order to put in pastures for the horses.  Our rabbit production is booming as well and we are up to 13 rabbits at the moment.  We bought a new, larger buck last weekend to add to our collection.

Bilbo, the newest adult rabbit:

We started planning out the logging by first surveying the property.  Six acres doesn't look quite as big as we originally thought...

Matthew worked very hard this weekend keeping an eye on our fire.  We have lots of scrap wood and old firewood that needs to go, as you can see in the background.  I think this was Matthew's favorite project yet!

Since we had a great bed of coals, we decided to cook Hobo dinners on Saturday night.  They sure were delicious!
