Garden in June

The garden is about at peak performance right now and this year is definitely the best one yet.  I finally decided to buy a pressure cooker so that I can preserve green beans and spaghetti sauce without freezing.  Luckily my mom was home to talk me through my first pressure canning experience!

I canned 39 pints of beans total this year with two that didn't seal.

The tomatoes are only about halfway done and I've already harvested more this year than in the last couple of years combined.   I'm very proud of this giant beefsteak tomato!  Leonie is not impressed.

The cherry tomatoes are overflowing with fruits too.  Here's one day's worth of tomatoes.

So far I've made two batches of salsa and one batch of spaghetti sauce.  Here is the salsa cooking while the water bath canner heats up.

We're going to have to rethink our pantry organization soon - I'm running out of room!

The overgrown and weedy garden jungle.  I barely have time to keep up with produce, let alone make the garden look good!

Ten Months Old

We can't believe that these girls are getting close to a year old already!  They look less like babies every day and are becoming quite adventurous.  This might be the last month for laying down photos on the monthly mat - we had to distract them with a YouTube video to get them to stay still long enough for the photo!

During my parents' visit at the end of May we took some photos to complement our announcement photos before the girls grew out of these adorable onesies.  Here's the announcement in case you forgot what it looked like.

The closest reenactment we could do!

We also liked this photo over the horse fence.

Unfortunately Elsie was scared of the horses so most of the photos had her crying.  Here's daddy trying to distract her instead.

This months' theme has definitely been mobility.  The girls can crawl over, under, and around pretty much everything.  They are standing up like pros and can even let go of things for 5-10 seconds before sitting down.  The cats are not thrilled about this progress and have had to adjust their sleeping habits accordingly.  Here's Louie being rudely awakened by the girls after their nap (and his).

Even the couch is no longer safe!

We sent the small car seats home with my parents to use during our trip up north in a couple months so the girls have moved up to these comfy seats.  They really look like big kids in the car now!

Meal time is still just as exciting, as seen here by Elsie clapping and Leonie raising her foot in anticipation.

We started giving the girls a bath together most nights as well.  Daddy washes them after dinner and mommy cleans up the mess of food.  They love to wrestle and splash in the water while fighting over who gets to play with the rubber ducky.  When the water first turns on they try to escape the tub but once they realize what it is then they want to play in the spout.  We've ordered a second duck.

Another highlight of the day is when they are released from the baby pit and allowed to wander the house, under close supervision of course.  They find all sorts of fun things to play with like rugs and flashlights.  Here's Elsie next to the window in our room.

Most mornings the girls have Cheerios and sometimes they even eat them out of a bowl.  Other days the bowl is immediately tipped over as they grab as many Cheerios as they can and try to stuff them all in their mouth.  We find several stray ones down their shirts during diaper changes as well as all over the baby pit.

Leonie's newest trick is climbing up into the toddler chairs.  She is very proud of herself!

Another big adventure this month was heading out to the beach again and this time we got in the water.  My friend Lauren and I took the girls out to visit another friend, Megan, that was staying on the beach.  Megan took most of these wonderful photos.  I ordered swim diapers and these cute little water suits a couple of days before the trip, good thing they fit!

Leonie loved the waves.  She was fascinated by the water rushing over her legs and then pulling away the sand from beneath her.  She may have eaten a little sand too.

Elsie was not a fan of the ocean but Megan did get a cute picture of her before she burst into tears.

Elsie and I played with sand instead, here she is inspecting some sand on her hand.

After the ocean (we had lunch before) we went to the pool for a few minutes.  Both of the girls loved the pool.

Finally, a few videos from this month.

"Release the babies!"  This is what happens when we open up the pit.  Leonie is on the left at the end.

A short clip of trying to catch Louie's tail.  Leonie is in pink.

The girls love the dance and are developing some signature moves.  Elsie is on the left.

Elsie's really into dancing.  She'll dance anywhere if you drop a beat for her.
