Dancing, Dancing, Dancing

This year has really been full of interesting dancing opportunities.  The Savannah Swing Cats were recently asked to perform on a riverboat cruise during an author convention in Savannah.  We dressed in 1940's attire and enjoyed a night of great music and delicious desserts.

Group shot with both authors, who co-write under the pen name Mikea Howard.  Their books are set in the early to mid 1900s and are considered "Diesel Punk".

We dance for free desserts!

Next up we were invited to help celebrate Leopold's Ice Cream's 97th birthday.  They shut off two blocks downtown and had lots of activities for kids as well as live music. It was a little warm but a storm blew in and kept us from sweating too much.

After Leopold's we headed out to a ballroom dance on one of the islands.  We haven't been dancing as much during the week since our regular swing dances were cancelled but we make up for it on the weekends.

River Riding

Last weekend my riding buddy Judy and I took our horses to a friend's house near Macon for an endurance training ride.  We rode out to a river where some of us took the horses in for a swim and then we enjoyed lunch on the "beach".  After lunch we continued the ride and totaled close to 18 miles.  It was hot but the river and the shade helped keep us cool.

Mow wasn't too sure of the river and this was only the second time I've ridden him bareback.

He got the hang of it though and seemed more comfortable when we stuck near the other horses.

We didn't quite make it to swimming but this is definitely the deepest he's ever been in water.

Here's the entire group all tacked up before we left the river.  Not everyone rode the whole distance with us but it was nice to meet new riders.

After the hot ride Judy handed out wet wash clothes that she had put in ice water before we left in the morning.  What a perfect way to cool down!  (and a silly photo op)
